Would an (I) implementation of simulated electronic health records in pre-licensure nursing education amongst (P) undergraduate nursing students (O) improve their skills on electronic documentation (T) during the course of their nursing program?
The keywords used to help find valuable articles relating to this topic are: electronic health records (EHR), undergraduate nursing education, and documentation. I would also group the keywords with "and" to see if I was able to get any different results. For example, I would search, nursing and documentation, or simulated EHR and education.
I tried to organize my research first by finding articles that were most recently written. From there, I would search to find the articles that were relevant for my topic. I started my search by finding an article that discusses the issue of a transition-to-practice gap with new grad nurses in documentation (Mtshali & Bvumbwe, 2018). This was a good introductory article to help explain the gap of knowledge that new grad nurses have regarding EHR use.
I found another article that commented on how nurses felt with EHR training, and gave statistics on how comfortable nurses felt navigating their EHR (Ting, Garnett, & Donelle, 2021). This was a good supporting article to follow, as it give credibility and insight from nurses personally on how they felt about EHR training .
Lastly I followed up with a study conducted of a simulated EHR implemented in an undergraduate nursing program to see if there was any improvement in documentation and confidence levels. This articles proved that implementation of a simulated EHR did increase confidence and improved documentation (Kleib, Jackman, Duarte Wisnesky, & Ali, 2021). I like this article as my last one because it validates that there needs to be more undergraduate education regarding EHR use and documentation.
Potential variables that might affect my topic would be the use of different simulated EHRs and new grad programs vs general training.

Topic: Comparing the preparedness of new graduate nurses from those who did nursing school with distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic versus nurses who went to traditional in-person nursing school.
This paper will predominantly be a literary review to explore the differences between the two types of prepared nurses. While researching this topic, some keywords that I used included distance learning, new graduate, and pandemic nursing education. I then skimmed the abstracts and introductions to see if they were a fit for my paper. With each article, I would then take notes on what main ideas each paper has and group them together to support the topics. This is when I would also find ideas for subtopics as well. To focus the search, find keywords that are related to your topic. To find more ideas, use keywords related to who, what, where, when, why regarding your topic (Grand Valley State University, 2022).
