Formulating a Research Question

For any study to have an impact, the first crucial step is coming up with a good research question. A good research question acts as a guide to the rest of the processes that are followed when conducting research studies (Gravetter & Forzano 79). For the Talia Johnson case, there are a number of knowledge gaps that exist in the case that has not been answered. From these gaps, research questions can be formulated that can be used to open doors to huge studies.

Considering that Talia's problems continued even though she was being counseled, there is the need to find out the best way to help rape victims. The research question is, what are the effective ways and measures to help rape victims? Secondly, considering that Talia also had a problem in dealing with her friends and family, the second research question can be how to handle rape victims after they have been counseled? The first question can contribute to the growth of new knowledge for social work because it can call out for study to find out from rape victims what was the most effective solution they adopted after their rape incident. The results of the study can be applied by other researchers to help rape victims to ensure they do not remain trapped in the rape incident for long that they are unable to move on with their normal lives. The study results can help reduce the number of people having to deal with prolonged rape effects in society.

For the second question, the question can help a great way of hastening the healing process for rape victims by knowing how they should be treated after the incident. For example, Talia was getting affected by her parents' pressures telling her to drop out of school. What Talia's friend told her made her blame herself. This can reduce the trauma effects of rape in society, and counselors can have ways to guide guardians and friends of rape victims can support them to make the survivors' journey easier. To come up with the research questions, I have pointed out gaps that are in the case, which are areas that the counselor seems not to have addressed. For example, the counselor did not bring in Talia parents and friends to tell them how they should handle Talia after the incident.
