Topic: Evaluating the Importance of Common Purpose in Team Dynamics
Thesis Statement: Establishing a clear common purpose sets the framework to create effective relationships, strategies to accomplish team goals, and the advancement of the organization as a whole.
Development: My goal for this paper is to examine what it means to have a clear common purpose. I also want to focus on the benefits of having a clear common purpose. To give a brief outline, this is how I would like the flow of the paper to go:
Introduction of a clear common purpose
Introduction of “SMART” goals stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
Benefits of a clear common purpose
· Ways that it leads to trust and effective relationships
· How knowing the common purpose leads to effective strategies that accomplish goals
· The addition of MacMillans Crystal clear roads
· Evolution and advanced of the organization due to having a common purpose
Cons of not having a clear common purpose
Ways to establish and reintroduce the common purpose for the team
Biblical examples of common purpose and the benefits
Conclusion
(I have a ways to go but this is a start)
Why it meets the topic requirement: Common Purpose is one of MacMillan’s six characteristics of high performing teams. Having a clear common purpose is essential in ministry and it leads to the overall success of a team. The evaluation of this topic will increase my knowledge and growth in team dynamics in ministry.

The thesis statement that the writer is developing for the Team Dynamics in Ministry paper is, The ministry leadership team must sustain team unity in order for the local church body to thrive as a healthy spiritual community. The emphasis is the unity of the leadership in a local church body that will determine the health of the local assembly. Ministry success and effectiveness has never been the results of a solo demonstration. Initiates may begin with one individual but the reality of a ministry vision or goal is the results of a coordinated effort of others. The health of the leadership in a local church is critical to the proper functioning of the body. Leadership will set the tone of the culture and determine the trajectory of the local body. The Bible says, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" (Psalms 133:1, KJV) The Lord calls it good when believers are unified. The leadership team becomes influential and effective in a way that permeates throughout the body. One of the areas that the writer will develop the paper through sustaining unity among leadership is focusing on relational unity. Christian leaders within a local church body are related because of what Jesus Christ has made possible for all who would put their faith in his death, burial, and resurrection. The Bible says, "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ". (Gal. 3:26, KJV) Believers are one in Christ, but the work begins with becoming one with each other. Leaders must emphasize the oneness with each other because it reflects the oneness in Christ. Stewart (2020) states the importance of leadership knowing that in Christ, leaders are family and treating one another right is setting the example for others. "This means that we are kind to one another, respectful, and uplifting. We don't tear each other down on a serious, condescending level" (para. 24).
The writer believes that the topic Sustaining unity within a ministry leadership team in a local church will meet the topic requirements because the cohesiveness of teamwork is paramount for organizational success and advancements. Looking at the team dynamics from a Christian worldview perspective, Jesus Christ taught the 12 disciples about the significance of unity. Krispin (2017) shares how the Scriptures encourages believers, (especially leaders) to nurture and cultivate unity within the parameters of a Christian community (para. 9). The Bible says, "Try your best to let God's Spirit keep your hearts united. Do this by living at peace" (Ephesians 4:3, CEV). Just as the unity of a husband and wife will influence the unity within a home, the unity among the local church leadership will impact the unity in a local church body.
