Post-Gemba Report

After doing the presentation of my Gemba walk to the executives of our hospital, they realized the serious system issues affecting the hospital goal of providing optimal health care to our clients. The management is addressing the issues by ensuring the installation of the embedded system at clinical front-line.. The organization is considering a system that will provide accurate and timely transmission of information throughout the healthcare unit (Wager, Lee & Glaser, 2017). The system will make it easier for clinical workers to report their concerns about quality issues at an early stage.

During my Gemba walk, I encountered several experiences. Through visits to the front-line, I was able to get first-hand information and a clear understanding of the real issues faced by front-line staff. A Gemba walk helped to make the best possible decision after understanding various challenges and gathering important information from workers to solve the problems (Cherrafi & Elfezazi, 2019). I was able to build a stable relationship with front-line workers and shared communication goals and objectives, which increased their engagement. My internal data came from hospital front line staffs, health records, and systems. At the same time, external data was collected from individual patients, their families and other healthcare facilities.

During data collection, I successfully was able to get important information from various aspects through my own observation. However, challenges emerged that hindered access to data such as language, race, and ethnicity. Some of them include how to ask patients and respondent about race, ethnicity and language. How to train staff to obtain the information in a respectful manner. And How to request information from admissions staffs without discomforting them. The data is helping in the enhancement and reduction of disparity in health by ensuring assessment of quality care, health outcomes, and utilization of healthcare services. Other challenges faced are inadequate training of most front line workers. Most lack technical knowledge of handling various systems. My effort to solve this challenge is providing training of front-line staffs to improve the performance of their tasks using the new methods.
