THE LASER FOCUS ATHLETIC FACILITY
The Laser Focus Athletic Facility. This athletic facility was constructed April 11th, 2017.
Currently this is the only location and is in Fayetteville NC. There are 64 employees that
presently work within the facility with different departments. The Owner and head coordinator,
Malcolm Blackshear leads the day-to-day operations, as well as formulates the guidelines and
expectations of this facility and employees.
There are 6 departments represented in this facility. They are the physical fitness
department, the physical injury rehabilitation department, the world famous athletic training
department, the nutrition department, the community outreach department, and the mental
toughness department. All of these departments are thriving in their own right however the
athletic training department ran by Malcolm Blackshear, has gained national attention.
Malcolm D. Blackshear’s Biography
Owner/Head Coordinator Malcolm Blackshear was born in Fayetteville NC on August 17th,
1984. The hometown legend known for his athletic dominance and high school and college
chose to come back home after a brief injury filled professional athletic career, to start his own
training facility and give back to the community that enabled him to become such a great athlete.
The UNC-Chapel Hill alum boasts a master's degree in Sports Management, as well as a B.S. in
Sports Medicine and Nutrition. In addition to running the day-to-day operations at the laser focus
athletic facility Malcolm is also we had director of the East Regional Code of ethics Department
of North Carolina. Malcolm designed and published the region wide Code of Ethics guide which
is being used in every facility in the region. Because of that efficient guide and his selfless
community involvement, Malcolm received a Stellar Award in 2018 for his community
involvement and impact. Of all the accomplishments and accolades Malcolm has received, his
pride relies in 3 specific departments of his facility. The Nationally recognized sports
medicine/athletic training department, the nutrition department, and the mental toughness
department. Malcolm call these departments the “holy-trinity” of the athletic facility.
The three 3 departments Malcolm Blackshear will discuss within the final project include:
Sports Medicine/Athletic Training: The sports medicine/athletic training
department covers an array of different sports and equips each athlete with the
tools needed to drive within their respective sport. Each of the athletic trainers
have professional backgrounds and multiple sports to include basketball, football,
baseball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, rugby, tennis, golf, and even badminton.
Nutrition: The Nutrition Department is led by 3 Dietitians with PhDs in Nutrition
& Dietetics. They also have collegiate experience in multiple sports.
Mental toughness: The mental toughness department focuses on the
psychological wellbeing of an athlete. The psychologists have adapted their
curriculums and practices from the school of the late Kobe Bryant’s Mamba
Academy. This gives all training athletes the best psychological advantages
available in sports.
