3.1: What’s Going On? (Week 1)

A big part of the thrill of government and politics is the open discussion of politics—and you’ll be doing a lot of that here. Specifically:

1) Find an ONLINE news article about U.S. politics and/or the U.S. government that interests you, and read it.

2) Go to the DISCUSSION BOARD forum called “What’s Going On? (Week 1)”

3) Make a new thread, and make its title the article’s title.

4) Paste the address of the news article in your thread, summarize the article in at least 100 words in the space provided, and explain why this article is relevant to us as students of the U.S. government.

5) Find any TWO entries there that interest you, and reply to them, commenting on the analysis therein and explaining why. Make your replies at least 100 words in length.

3.2: The most important civil rights issue that needs resolution is…

A great deal of this chapter deals with a history lesson, more or less.  At first glance, it might not look as relevant as it seems to us today, given how much things have changed since the civil rights struggles of the 1940s and afterward, but they are crucial to understanding what still needs to be done, so to speak, concerning guaranteeing civil rights for all Americans.

So give this a try:

1. Go to the DISCUSSION BOARD and select the forum called “3.2: The most important civil rights issue that needs resolution is…”

2. Complete the statement above in at least 100 words, using specifically-cited material from Chapter 5 to make your point.

3. Reply to at least one other posting in at least 100 words.
