Week 3 - Discussion Forum 2

Respond to at least two of your fellow students or instructor posts with your proposed negotiation strategy in a substantive manner and provide information or concepts that they may not have considered. Each response should have a minimum of 100 words and be respectful of others’ opinions and beliefs that differ from your own. Support your position by using information from the week’s readings. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful and interactive discourse in this discussion forum. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until Day 7 and respond with robust dialogue to anyone who replies to your initial post.

As a project manager, we often focus on individual tasks throughout the project to complete the bigger picture. (Kloppenborg at el. 2019) explain that top management of an organization normally writes a concise statement to guide their company’s quality efforts” (p. 21-3a). Having this information is critical because, within the various stages of project completion, there are standards and expectations that need to be met. The customer won’t accept the final project. With that said, it’s essential to establish a quality management plan with the customer’s definition of quality to ensure the deliverables and overall work is accepted. I would plan to use the plan-do-check-act method to gradually select areas of change and implement changes.

Multiple inherited issues define this project; however, ILS hasn’t lost sign of value profits, people, and the planet. Some of the concepts that appear the most in quality policies are employee engagement, leadership and commitment, and sustainability, so I will plan to focus on these aspects by providing a short, clear, and concise document explaining expectations. While this may seem like a downfall, it gives us a target area to improve. It’s overwhelming being tasked to improve “everything,” but haven’t a list of areas made the task seems more manageable. Next, it’s time to roll out the plan small scale and collect data. For example, it has been expressed that the employee turnover rate was 25 percent, a part high turnover rate can mean employees don’t have a sense of worth in their current position or aren’t being praised for their hard work. If leadership can start to acknowledge workers or task out their responsibilities, it could decrease the company’s turnover rate and increase morale. The second plan of action would be addressing an item that delivers more alignment with Walmart’s needs while staying within the project’s restraints. In prior classes, I learned about the importance of understanding leadership styles, and its impact on individuals because what works in the United States may not appeal to individuals in Egypt. Giving a brief on how to respect/understand cultures could go a long way have help ILS sustain operations around the world. The third plan would entail a portion of corporate social responsibility (CSR) because without the backing of the community ILS may not do as well as we’d hoped. One issue within the scope of the project is to reduce fuel. While this may not have an immediate impact on the local area, reducing fuel can reduce the air pollutants in the environment. ILS has planned on obtaining cars that are battery powered to help reduce this negative impact on the atmosphere. With the plan and action in effect, the fourth step is to act, which is to compare the results. If the action is successful, it would be an excellent time to implement those changes across the company; if not, developing a new plan is necessary.

Project managers usually look more at the smaller tasks that are completed in order to fulfill the vision of a project. We create a plan of action and timeline that will set the team and company up for success and with all of the steps, we stick to the standards and values of our company. In order to complete a project successfully, we need to ensure we stick to the companies values and vision as well because that is what draws us to the customer many of times, if we go against what we stand for then the customer may not accept the work we have done. For example, if we need to have to choose between a higher quality and lower quality item and we stand for having the best quality, we should stick with the high-quality item to align with what we have promised our customer, which is why it is very important to establish a quality management plan. This will help us get the customers definition of quality, so we know the finished product is something they are going to be super happy with.

When looking at popular aspects of a quality policy you normally will see topics like leadership, commitment, and sustainability. There is often times a section about employees and their engagement as well, so we will focus on these topics when creating this document.

We were made aware that the employee turnover rate was 25% which is very high. A lot of this could be because of anything, but from learning more about this warehouse, it could be the lack of training or safety. If we were to ensure safety and retrain employees this can easily help the turn-over rate, as well as if we had monthly incentives to make the workplace fun and engaging.

We want to ensure we are focusing on ILS and our corporate social responsibility. We want to lower our usage of electricity and use more sustainable materials, so I had suggested solar panels and maybe motion sensor lights. Another thing we have to do is lower our fuel usage. By getting new machines we will be able to lower the usage of fuel and hopefully turn the warehouse into a safer and more efficient workplace.

Lastly, it is very important we understand the culture of Peru and its citizens. We want to make sure that we are respecting their culture and honoring it as well. We also want to make sure we are honoring their holidays and work culture as well.
