11 unread reply.11 reply.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Covering the Courts

On a fairly frequent basis we see journalists covering stories about the judicial system. Graber and Dunaway (2015) note that “Because of the shortage of skilled legal reporters, much reporting on the courts—even the Supreme Court—is imprecise and sometimes outright wrong.” After reading “Covering State and Local Affairs” in Chapter 8 of the textbook, find a news story that focuses on the justice system in your city or state. The story can appear in print or electronic media and can be from mainstream or alternative media. Analyze the story and discuss the following in your response:

· Is the story of national or local significance?

· Does the reporter provide relevant facts that clearly explain the impact of the issue on the community or state?

· Does the reporter seem to be knowledgeable about the political or judicial process in delivering the information?

Your initial post should be 250 to 350 words in length. Your opinions must be supported with at least one reference from the textbook. You may include additional references from other scholarly sources. The initial post must include in-text citations and full references at the end, adhering to APA style. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.
