Research Topic and Articles
For my research project, my potential research topic has to do with how parental
use of electronic devices in child caring might influence the strength and quality of the
parent-child bond.
During the literature search process, I used the search terms “relationship-
building,” “early childhood,” “electronic devices,” “”child-parent bond,” “strength of child-
parent bond,” and “technology.”
The first article I found will be used to explore the importance of relationship
building between caregiver and child to outcomes later in life (Vu et al., 2015). Vu et al.
(2015) identifies six evidence-based caregiver-child interaction interventions that foster
positive relationships between caregiver and child. These positive relationships have
been found to lead to positive outcomes later in life.
Coyne et al. (2021) explore the relationship between emotion regulation in
toddlers and caregivers allowing technology use. The research identifies a correlation
between parents utilizing technology to placate tantrums and the development of
problematic media use (Coyne et al., 2021).
Schriever (2021) discusses the response early childhood educators have to
concerns of parents about technology use. The article describes the differences
between technology use in the home versus an educational setting, including access to
technology and its expected use (Schriever, 2021).
