Week 2 response to this forum:

Sociology of religion is the study of the practices, beliefs and structural forms of religion using the tools and methods of the correction of sociology. The study of religion was central to the discipline of sociology with influential figures such as Max Weber and Emile Durkheim writing lengthily on the role and function of religion in human society. Sociologists of religion study every part of religion from what is believed to how persons act while in worship and while living out their stated convictions. They study the changing role of religion both in the public arena from political, economic to media and in intimate interpersonal relationships. Global religious diversity, conflict, the nature of religious cults, the influence of religion on racial, gender and sexuality issues. The effect of the media and modern culture has on religious practices are all topics of interest in current sociology of religion.

The article that I chose talked about an interesting subject. It can be known as different things like tithing or giving. Some many actually call it supporting and living for their higher being. Meaning that most people are giving finically to the church. Some give more than others because everyone pay check is different amount. According to the bible or whatever you read it says to give God ten percent. Which is not a lot however, to some it may be. Some people just give 1 or 2 dollars like they would as if they were tipping a waiter. In this article I also read that Conservative and Evangelical Protestants give more monies than Catholics and other religions. I thought this was a very interesting results that the researchers formulated. What do you think?
