In visual act we can depend on basic elements such as lines, color, hue, texture, and basic principles such as balance, rhythm, proportion and scale, and emphasis to guide discussion on analyzing and discussing arts (Chamberlain University college of Nursing, 2023). A work of art selected is Leonardo da Vinci, Mona Lisa, 1503-1506 oil on panel, 30^1/4 x 21inches portrait.

Descriptive critic: In this painting Mona Lisa is dressed in black and has a black veil on. She has an enigmatic smile, and her facial appearance looks very real, she has no eye bra nor eye lashes. Her face and her hands are the focal point of this painting because her outfit is black and her background is also a dull shade, this contrast makes the color and features of her face and hands stand out. Another principle on this painting is balance, the balance here is asymmetrical balance, the landscape on the left is different from the landscape on the right, but they are equal in dimension, giving the portrait a pleasant balance view. The land scape has different shade of colors, and the narrow path on the left is well curved out using lines and looks real. The face of Mona Lisa looks very realistic because the artist used a technique called Sfumato. In this technique layers were produced using glazes which is material almost transparent, tinted with a bit of black pigment dispersed in a lot of organic matter. (Walter, 2013).

Interpretive Critic: The intent of this painting is not well established, but research stated that, the painting of Mona Lisa represents Lisa Gherardini, wife of wealthy merchant Francesco del Giocondo. Leonardo was commissioned by her husband to make this portrait. It was painted by Leonardo da Vinci in Florence around 1503-6 (Coonin, 2006). The focal point of this painting by my observation is her face with the enigmatic smile, her hands clearly shown with one hand resting on the other and her posture; her shoulders are turned at an angle. The smile looks like the smile of someone who is fade up about something. The position of her hand and posture represents that of a gracious well manned individual.

Evaluation Critic: Evaluative criticism functions to establish the quality and excellence of an artwork based on perfection, insight, and inexhaustibility. (Martin, 2018). Looking at the painting of Mona Lisa the artist achieved aesthetic, I will consider it perfect because the form is well out line and the basic principles of designing were implemented producing a portrait which looks very real and flaw-less. The smile on her face is enigmatic, the position of her hands, her body posture, her background and landscaping led to many interpretations, insight, and meaning, from this painting. The form and content analysis of this piece is inexhaustible, I will therefore consider Mona Lisa painting a masterpiece. This is evident by the fact that it is the most famous in the world and its monetary worth.
