Hello everyone,
For the first data set (injuries that a clinic saw in a month), a histogram would best represent the key information. The vertical y axis would represent the number of injuries while the horizontal x axis would represent different types of injuries. Types of injuries in the x axis can include such injuries as bites, burns, cuts and scrapes for example. The bars on the x axis would be right next to each other, without space between them, by the definition of a histogram (Holmes et al., 2017). The y axis would be numbered from 1 through 25 for example, if at the most the clinic sees just under 25 cases of a particular injury a month.
For the second data set (the number of minutes that each patient spent in the waiting room of a doctor's office), a line graph would best represent the key information. Line graphs are good for showing quantitative information that changes over time. In this case the key information is the time spent waiting and each patient that visited the Doctor’s office on a particular day. The vertical y axis would represent the time waited in minutes and the x axis would represent each patient from the first patient seen through to the last patient seen. The y axis would be numbered in increments of 1 minute ranging from 1 minute to 15 minutes. This is assuming that the longest wait time is under 15 minutes and the shortest wait time is 1 minute. The x axis would be numbered 1 through 30, assuming that the clinic sees a maximum of 30 patients in a day . Each day would require a different line graph in this example and later additional graphing can be done to show the average wait times by the days of the week.
