week 2 mapping
RUNNING HEAD: Data analysis 1
By Day 1 of Week 1, your instructor will post student assignments for this discussion. In previous coursework, you learned about the replacement of ICD9CM with ICD-10CM. When doing longitudinal studies or retroactive doing audits, the data may cover a time period where the two coding classifications may be used. In order to use the data, the data needs to be mapped. In this discussion, students will select a partner to develop the mapping of a range of ICD 9CM codes to ICD10CM or ICD10CM to ICD9CM.

Working together with your partner (collaborate), provide the following information for the range of codes:
· Individually, map the ICD 9CM to ICD10CM or ICD10CM to ICD 9CM
· Compare your individual mappings and reach consensus on the correct mapping.
· Students may collaborate by telephone, email, doc sharing, etc.
· Summarize your process and state whether your individual mapping matched or was there a collaborative effort for the final mapping.
· Comment on the ease or difficulty of the mapping process.
· Provide at least two examples of issues with mapping from one coding classification version to another version.
· Articulate the role of Health Information Management professionals in this type of data analytics process.
