Hi class,
Watching the video and listening to Ms. Dobson made me think of a company that has taken some of those same ideas to heart and has challenged itself.
Back in 1985, the world leader in soft drinks decided to take a calculated risk by marketing and distributing New Coke. As Ms. Dobson stated, ideas should be like 2-way doors, and they should be reversible as long as you learn from them. Coca-Cola did just that with New Coke. Someone in the company had brought this idea of reinventing the wheel, so to speak and changing the formula for Coke. It was the first time they would change the recipe in 99 years.
The change was not well-received, and the company was forced to go back to the original formula which led to a new marketing campaign for them: Coke with the original formula. This led to skyrocketing sales for the company as many thoughts they had seen the errors of changing something so very iconic. Some people wonder still if the idea for New Coke a bad idea was simple, or if it was a simple fantastic marketing idea to reinvigorate the Coca-Cola brand as they had been struggling against Pepsi with their marketing campaign of "for a new generation." Regardless of the real truth behind the decision, no one can deny that Coca-Cola is the leader of soda since the change back.
