Discussion 1 and 2
Practicing corporate social responsibility may be conflicting because a particular act may benefit society at the expense of the company. I have to choose either to maximize the company’s shareholder value or to exercise social responsibility irrespective of the impact it will have on the company. Acting for the best interest of the company may help the company make profits in the short run, but the company is bound to lose customers as well as investors; thus, it may not thrive in the long term. Observing corporate social responsibility is suitable for the company’s survival. It is the best way to attract more clients and investors. Customers, employees, and other shareholders will always be loyal to a company that cares about their welfare. Having a Microchip should only be used for the good of promoting corporate social responsibility and not for the selfish gains of the company or humiliating workers. CSR is applicable in promoting fairness, integrity, and honesty (Ferrell, Ferrell & Fraedrich, 2018). I need to work in a manner that is fair to others and be honest in everything that I do. I don’t think there will be a need for a microchip if I act in a manner that promotes integrity, fairness, and honesty. I believe that CSR is crucial for me as an employee. I need to ensure that I always act in a way that protects the health and wealth of the general society. It is the best way of ensuring exceptional customer service, which is a significant competitive strategy for many companies.
I can choose to either exploit the resources on the environment for the company or conserve the environment for the social good. Utilizing environmental resources will provide the company with the necessary raw materials for the company. This will, however, affect members of society. Cases of drought and famine, floods, and air pollution that may be caused by a company’s activity may affect the community negatively. Choosing to preserve nature may limit resources for a company. Still, it protects the livelihood of the people who will be able to afford their products and promote the business effectively. It will be applicable in increasing engagement among stakeholders, attract more customers, as well as developing customer loyalty. Preserving the environment also works best at improving brand reputation. Protecting the environment is the best action in ensuring both the company and society benefits (Yuan, Y., Lu, L. Y., Tian, G., & Yu, Y. (2020) I will always ensure that my activities do not degrade the environment at my workplace because it is rewarding for the company in the long run.
