Research Topic Proposal and Rationale

Introduction

Vaccine development was credited to Edward Jenner in the 18th century. Over the years, scientific innovation and the emergence of new lifestyles prompted the development of more vaccines. A vaccine is a biological drug that bolsters body immunity against diseases (Vetter et al., 2017). Many diseases are caused by viruses. Among them are the current Covid-19 pandemic and AIDS virus. Currently, many vaccine types exist. Examples of vaccines are protein, subunit, nucleic-acid-based, dead, and attenuated vaccines (Vetter et al., 2017). The differences exhibited by the vaccines are majorly in terms of composition, method of application, oral, and the mode of fighting diseases. This research paper discusses many vaccine aspects, including the current state of vaccines, the impacts of vaccines on the human body, and the current challenges facing the scientist when developing drugs. The other important question is determining why vaccines become resistant to some diseases and how the issues may be avoided.

Topic Overview

One of the research's rationales is to empower many people in understanding how modern vaccines work in bolstering body immunity. According to Vetter et al. (2017), there are many vaccine designs, each with limitations and advantages. Some of the vaccines include inactivated and attenuated vaccines. Therefore, to better understand vaccines, people first need to understand the different designs used in manufacturing vaccines, the merits and demerits of each design, and the implications of vaccination. To enable a better understanding, the research shall also delve into the vaccination methods to help with a better understanding of drugs.

The second reason for conducting the research is to identify the challenges facing the manufacture of oral drugs. While vaccination remains one of the cost-effective methods of applying drugs, safety concerns needs to be addressed. According to Ramirez et al. (2017), oral vaccines are the most advantageous compared to other application methods. When compared to the traditional injection method, oral vaccines guarantee more compliance and safety to the user. Another merit of oral vaccines is the ease of manufacturing by the doctors, which makes them economical compared to other forms of drugs. Nevertheless, some challenges keep manufacturers and vaccines users from oral vaccines. The challenges include the need to avoid tolerance induction to have the maximum outcomes. Therefore the research will aim to evaluate how to eliminate the challenges of oral vaccines to capitalize on its gains.

The other rationale for conducting the research is to study vaccines' social, economic, and health impacts. Vaccines lead to improved health outcomes by reducing mortality and encouraging population growth. Through vaccination, people's immunity is strengthened to fight various diseases caused by the virus. For instance, people living with HIV receive ARVs that enable them to live for long years. Also, some vaccines lead to the eradication of some diseases; for instance, polio is eliminated in many countries through polio live attenuated vaccines. Economically, vaccines lead to more expenditure savings and productivity gains as employers can maintain a healthy population. Socially, vaccines have enhanced equality and led to the strengthening of the health infrastructure.

Research Question

1. What is the modern understanding of vaccines, and how does the comprehension impact t people?

2. What are the current challenges in the use of oral vaccines and how can the challenges be eliminated?

3. What are the implications of drugs on individuals and national health, economy, and social structures?

Conclusion

In summary, the research will focus on vaccines used in bolstering body immunity. The reason for conducting the research is to promote the modern understanding of vaccines. Further, the study will discuss different vaccine designs and delve into vaccines' economic, health, and social impacts.
