Abstract

This paper will discuss how eBay leveraged cloud technologies and provides the overview information of the company. This thesis will cover the goals and missions of Microsoft.

eBay

Specialization has prompted many businesses to focus on what they do best and leave other companies to provide them with other goods and services. The implication of this has been felt in a positive way as there has been an increased success for all the companies. One of the largest cloud service providers is the Microsoft cloud. Cloud computing allow businesses to store and access programs, data and other services from cloud as opposed to storing these in their hardware. One company that has leveraged cloud computing is the eBay. This company is an online multinational company that facilitates business to consumer or consumer to consumer purchases through its company’s website.

The company was formed in 1995 by Pierre Omiya. As of the year 2011, the company operated in more than 30 countries while in the recent past, the company has increased its operations in other countries. The company was started as a hobby site by its founder who first sold a broken laser Pointer (Zhou et al., 2008), The activities of the site increased and traffic caused Omidyar to upgrade his internet package from personal to business owing to the increased traffic that was reported by his ISP. Its initial name was Auction Web as it turned to be an auction site, the name would later be changed to eBay in the year 1997. The company has reported a steady growth since then to one of the biggest companies in the US. The integration of technology in its operations has enabled the company to report a breakthrough in its operations is a wider aspect. Today, the company uses cloud computing from Microsoft Azure
