Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
The first reason that student of sociology should care about social research is to help others challenge stereotypes and correct social myths. Secondly, understanding the basic of research can help in other work fields in order to not only make you understand the needs of your job more but make you an asset by understanding the needs of your company. Thirdly, everyone individually should understand how to conduct research for personal benefit in your everyday life. I think the reason that is most important to me is the first one, challenging stereotype and social myths. Right now, I am a personal trainer, I emphasis the importance of weight training in my plans. I am constantly trying to break through stereotypes of what women that weight lift looks like and what nutrition should look like in regard to weight loss. I am also getting my degree in sociology because the goal is to work with women rebuilding their lives after leaving a domestic abuse situation. I want to promote the things that women need to look out for when entering a relationship that have been previously misinterpreted as simply masculine but are red flags and might be a sign of an abuser and the rewire the mindset that was created from their abuser to understand what life can be like after leaving the relationship. I think that GCU plays special attention to the ethic of research because in a lot of studies conducted very personal information is taken and they subjects need to be able to trust you have the best intentions in the study, in additions the conclusions being drawn from these studies can decipher future decision made personal or professionally.

Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
Hi Professor and Class,
The reason that I found to be the most important is the second point. This point talks about how the ability to perferm social research is in high demand across all career fields. I think that this is the most impotant one because knowing how to conduct research and see it through can help and or change the way a company may or may not be doing something. In the field that I work in I find my self doing research all the time so learning how to conduct that research better would greatly help my day to day tasks at work. I think that GCU wants everyone to may attention to the code of ethics because with research things can be dicy if not sited correctly.
