Look over the table of contents in your textbook. Which topic is the most interesting to you personally? Why? Which topic looks like it may connect most to your spiritual, emotional, and professional development?

Instructor Louis and Class,

I think the most interesting chapter that most will connect with me is chapter 6, emotions. I am a really emotional person. I am very good at expressing how I feel and trying to find the reason as to why I feel that way. I am also very good at communicating upsets and letting others know respectfully how their choices made me feel or impacted me in any type of way. I also try really hard to focus on my own behaviors and how my choices make others feel. Also, I work in a k-2 special education setting where the kiddos often have trouble expressing emotion or reacting to their emotions or even telling the difference between emotions such as being scared and embarrassed. For example, once a student was very out of control in music class, the student was pulled aside and they said that they were scared and that the kids were looking at them, however, upon further investigation of the situation, the student seemed to be more embarrassed by what the teacher was asking of them rather than actually being frightened. I love to help children work through these kinds of things and in the classroom I work in we talk a lot about the zones of emotions and what behaviors are appropriate for each zone. I think that reading chapter 6 will give me more of an insight on myself and how to better conduct myself at work.

Hello class,

Looking through the chapters, the one that looks most interesting to me personally is Social Influence. I am very fascinated by how people respond to the environment around them, and how or why people act differently based off of the people around them. An example the comes to mind is the Tide Pod challenge a few years ago, where kids and adults were eating (or popping) Tide Pods in their moths because “everybody” was doing it. I know the people participating in this ridiculous challenge were smart, normal, everyday people that were sucked into a social media influence and I am curious as to why. As for which chapter might benefit my spiritual, emotional or professional development, I would have to say the chapter on attitudes, behavior and rationalization. I feel that every situation and outcome is 100% dependent on the attitude that we approach it with. If we were to approach any situation with a negative attitude then the chances are the outcome will be negative, but if that is flipped into a positive attitude, even if the results are not what we want, we can still try to see the positive attributes that come with it.
