Week 1 Discussion Due 02/20/2020
Week 1 Overview Wk 1 - Anatomical & Directional Terms Worksheet [due Mon]
Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Ch. 1, An Introduction to the Human Body Week 1 Overview
Welcome to Anatomy and Physiology I.
We begin this course with coverage of the basic structural organization of the human body,
focusing on the core aspects of how molecules are held together through bonding and
cell-to-cell interactions. This week you also learn the essential molecules and nutrients that
are needed to support and maintain life. A basic understanding of the human body plan is
necessary to build upon the structures and functions in the coming weeks.
Ch. 1, An Introduction to the Human Body
Read Ch. 1 for an introduction to anatomy and physiology, including the basic vocabulary
used in these fields by scientists and health-care professionals alike.
Ch. 2, The Chemical Level of Organization
Read Ch. 2 to explore molecule structures and chemical reactions present within our bodies,
as well as the role of water in the maintenance of homeostasis.
Ch. 3, The Cellular Level of Organization
Read Ch. 3 to learn about cell biology, also known as cytology, which is the study of cellular
structure and function.
Laboratory Manual for Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise 1
Read the Sections A and B of Lab Exercise 1. This reading will help prepare you to complete
the Anatomical Terms Worksheet due this week.
