The topic I chose under The Community Guide was excessive Alcohol Consumption, particularly Enhanced Enforcement of Laws Prohibiting Sales to Minors. The site is somewhat easy to understand, it did take some time to figure out what I was trying to look for and how to access this information, probably because I have never visited the site before.
One of the interventions found in the factsheet is regulatory enforcement of retailer compliance checks for sales of alcohol to minors. This can be done as a community effort to reduce underage drinking, by conducting decoy operations and publicize this to highlight the problem in the community. This can also be completed with help of law enforcement, but with the purpose of community-based programs, it can be done solely with them. While these efforts can continue, minors may seek help to access alcohol from social outlets. Another idea is to bring awareness to social circles and potential providers to reduce this opportunity. This can be done by setting up more information in communities to amplify concerns for underage drinking and possible punishment for adults purchasing alcohol for underage children.
This factsheet was very helpful, besides the interventions found, there are other peer reviewed articles cited, as well as “search” word ideas to be able to find the correct results for the topic at hand.

Increasing Appropriate Vaccinations
Top of Form
I decided to focus on increasing vaccination rates. There is a long history of strong evidence supporting the effect of vaccines. In the 1960’s, the vaccine program for the measles and mumps was started and to this day, cases have decreased by more than 99% (The Community Guide, 2017).
One of the strategies listed is an incentive strategy. These can be tricky to use because you must know the population and what would incite them to participate (McKenzie, Neiger, & Thackeray, 2017). One who is hesitant to participate in the vaccination program might be more likely if there was a possibility of food vouchers, gift cards or other prizes they earn with keeping up to date with their vaccines which increases the community demand. I am currently witnessing this at my job. I work for a huge health care system and they are offering a $25 gift card to those who complete both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. They had a lot more employees schedule appointments to get the vaccine once that announcement came out.
Another strategy I read about that I would have never thought about that I think is a great idea is standing orders on vaccines. Standing orders allow nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare providers administer vaccines on the spot and allowing the provider to sign off on it later (The Community Guide, 2015). I think this would be great to implement in the school system and allow school nurses to be able to administer vaccines if there is a student there that is out of date. This would keep the child from having to miss school to go to a doctor’s appointment and having the possibility of having to pay money for the office visit.
