Ann Wood: The Case Study

People-related problems or issues of Ann Wood

In the contemporary business environment, it is expected that employees in their different capacities will often encounter a series of people related issues. This is attributed to the complexities in standard operations that these different organizations are expected to comply with. The success of such cases depends on the way the individuals handle these challenges (Hitt, Miller and Colella, 2015). In a practical case, the organization should anticipate conflicts and issues and set up mechanisms and channels to handle these issues. Pointedly, Ann Wood encountered a series of challenges such as complaints concerning payment, internet and communication challenges. In these cases, Ann used effectively applied the organizational infrastructure in addressing the issues. This feature was achieved by taking responsibility for the issues as they arose, assigning tasks to the relevant individuals and managing the situation so that they do not get out of hand. Complaints among employees is a result that the workforce is not adequately supported to give their best. This feature can either lead to poor performance or revolt in the business, hence the need for effective management of issues that arise among employees of the organization.

Ann Wood as a high-involvement manager

While different arguments have been poised on the qualities of an effective manager, it is evident that minimal engagement of employees can lead to conflicts and poor working environment (Boxall and Macky, 2014). Further, Koi-Akrofi, Godfred (2018) noted that it is important that a manager values their team. These individuals are solely responsible for the functioning of the business on their day to day basis and keep the whole team motivated to achieve the objectives of the organization. While there might be mistakes acknowledging them and involving the whole team is key to organizational success. Pointedly, Ann Wood is a fairly effective and high involvement manager. This is evidenced by the different issues that she addressed on daily basis. These activities involved managing and addressing individual complaints and concerns on payment and communication, meetings and engagement with to management and well as working on her research analysis.

According to the definition of Hitt, Miller and Colella. (2015) for an effective manager, these attributes and accomplishments are enough to make an effective manager as she has the capacity to handle different tasks at the same time, work under pressure and the demands of the position. In this regard, the success of a manager is not only reflected on the amount of work accomplished or the number of units produced but the level of conflict management and dispute resolution mechanisms exhibited in the workplace.

Organizational Competitive Advantage

With increased competition in the market, the need for competitive advantage is a significant consideration. Businesses need to establish their strengths and operational aspects that will set them apart from their peers. Accordingly. Employees are one of the greatest resources in any organizational set up (Hitt, Miller and Colella, 2015). While these individuals are responsible for the delivery of quality and products, they are also a reflection of the organizational dreams to the public. In the case study, Ann held her team with the highest regard. Pointedly, the management and associates in the organization are responsible for the development of policies and resource allocation. If these elements are effectively managed, they can be used to positively develop the organization and motivate the employees.
