Healthcare evidence-based strategies are important to understand the dynamics of any medical institution. Strategies that enable the utilization of available resources, increase the productivity of the nurses and other professionals, and reduces waste that in turn, reduces costs, are mostly evidence-based. Healthcare informatics is basically data that if processed and analyzed, can be used by revolutionary researchers in creating health promotion plans that promise the best health care practice. Nurses have actively been exploring ways to improve collaboration in the healthcare field by using data from patient records and other clinical data (Haux, 2010). Informatics has a huge role in developing and disseminating evidence-based health care practice by the following.
Preventing harmful treatment
Medication errors account for the harmful impact on 1.5 million patients yearly (Hersh, et al., 2002). Misdiagnosis leads to a patient suffering from the initial disease as well as counter-medication risks that may cause heavy side effects and further worsen their condition. Other examples of harmful treatment include incomplete treatment, improper medical equipment, incorrect recording of patient data, and miscommunication between medical professionals. These practices may be avoided using nursing informatics. Incorporating health informatics technologies leads to standardized tracking of diagnostic information, administration of prescription drugs, and the use of new technology such as bar-coded and automated pharmaceutical dispensing systems to reduce medication errors.
Improving patient record retrieval
Records can be retrieved in a streamlined manner in electronic health care record systems. Patient’s history can be viewed in real time using such systems and they can also be altered and updated which is not a function paper records provide (Wan, 2006). Furthermore, the environmental benefit is desirable which frees up money for other important causes in a healthcare system.
Improving health insurance system
Documentation is important to ensure proper compensation for medical aid provided under health insurance plans. By health care informatics the process becomes speedy, there is better flow of information, faster file submission, swifter reimbursement of funds for the healthcare providers and hence, the healthcare industry flourishes when patients are treated promptly.

Healthcare informatics is an emerging trend in the medical field where data is collected, stored, and disseminated to improve the quality of life for the patients. When comprehensive data is adequately stored and made available promptly, it makes decision-making easy and ensures that patients are treated adequately. Evidence-based healthcare practice is attained when the people in the hospital setting work as a team to solve the patient's problem (Hess, 2021).
For example, when a patient is diagnosed with a physical and mental issue, a team of specialists has to coordinate the care for better outcomes. Coordination is therefore paramount to achieving the best healthcare outcomes. Nurse leaders can therefore ensure that healthcare informatics is well functioning to have the correct information for coordinated care, which is needed for a better outcome in healthcare (Kashyap, &Rahamatkar, 2019). It is paramount to note that evidence-based care is only possible when the information is made available to all the relevant people in healthcare.
Since the introduction of healthcare informatics, it has been possible to provide safety in sharing information. Privacy is an important factor in healthcare, and authorized personnel must only access patient information. For example, when a patient visits the laboratory, they have to be shown to only the patient, their family, and the relevant healthcare professional to take care of the situation (Garg et al., 2022). Before introducing healthcare informatics, the information would be disseminated to the wrong person who could use the information against the will of the patient and blackmail them using the information. Therefore, the dissemination has been used to make a better outcome and improve the patient’s safety. Only authorized people can access the information in the hospital setting.
