Running Head: COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH 1
COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH 2
Question 1
The first nursing reaction to Jamal’s suicidal plan would be to ensure that he does not leave my sight all through. Keeping Jamal within my visual field could lessen the chance of him harming himself until he receives a total psychiatric assessment in a healthcare institution. Also, it would be vital to ensure that he feels emotionally safe and supported to establish a trusting relationship that could improve the intervention's productiveness. Such individuals like Jamal tend to be extra open to fact-based talks concerning their suicidal thoughts and also beliefs (Vandewelle et al., 2019). I would also ensure that the room environment that Jamal stays in does not contain anything that Jamal could use to harm himself. I would also encourage Jamal to speak up freely regarding his feelings and even why he prefers suicide.
I would also make sure that I inform his family regarding his condition and educate them on various ways that could assist them in recognizing stages of impending self-harm, which may be carried out by Jamal. I would also assist Jamal in planning different ways of tackling disappointments, anger, and frustrations. It would also be crucial to make Jamal understand that harming himself is just a choice and not something that he cannot control. Lastly, I would ensure to give him an emergency hot-line that is accessible all through the day and night that he can use whenever he feels the need to use it after intervention.
Question 2
The kind of educational program that I would establish is the stress management program, which would help students better comprehend stress, its effects, and learn how to cope with it (Valosek et al., 2019). Making students know how to recognize that they or their friends are stressed could help them tackle such situations more excellently. The program could also assist in establishing a better teacher/student connection, which is crucial for lessening stress. Those kids at-risk require an individual with a compassionate and calming presence that they can approach whenever in need.
Physical activities could also be included in the program to lessen stress and reduce anxiety. Generally, a stress management plan can play a crucial role in managing students' stress since it assures a healthy learning surrounding, provides services to help reduce stress, enhances students and staff members' knowledge and capabilities for tackling stress, and also coordinates activities with the community and even families that are associated with the students. Stress management in middle schools is essential since it results in heightened brain functioning of the students, helps students prevent situations that bring about stress, and positively impacts students' emotional health (Ansley, Houchins & Varjas, 2016). As a result, they can concentrate and perform excellently in their studies.
