Infectious Diseases

Individuals contract infectious diseases from organisms including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. These organisms already exist in human bodies but are harmless. However, when exposed to specific conditions, the organisms cause illnesses. Therefore, it is appropriate to consider recommendations for preventing and treating these conditions. The United States Preventive Services Taskforce provides an extensive list of recommendations, is beneficial for including several conditions, and requires the addition of preparedness and health organizations to be efficient.

Screening and preventive medications are considered the most commonly applied recommendations in preventing and treating infectious diseases. For instance, Ghany and Morgan (2020) note that screening is essential to cope with conditions such as hepatitis C. However, other recommendations also exist in dealing with infectious conditions. For example, the United States Preventive Services Taskforce (2022) notes that counseling, screening, and preventive medicines can forestall and treat various infectious conditions. Depending on such recommendations, examples of the conditions include syphilis, genital herpes, and other sexually transmitted infections. Therefore, the category of diseases can determine the recommendations employed in the treatment.

The United States Preventive Services Taskforce is a vital source for recommendations because it contains details on several conditions. Having information on all the diseases in one place can help one identify resourceful knowledge about an illness apart from the one that led to the search. In addition, the source benefits healthcare workers who can swiftly identify the category of the conditions on the right column. Consequently, treatment speed increases due to healthcare workers' abilities to track details swiftly.

The information on the site should have added preparedness as an essential recommendation for dealing with infectious illnesses. For example, Belfroid et al. (2017) detail that preparedness is necessary for responding to outbreaks of infectious conditions. Similarly, the information should have added organizations essential for dealing with the recommendations. For instance, the health system has several formal and informal organizations with different stakeholders and scopes of operations (Bloom & Cadarette, 2019). Working together with these groups improves healthcare quality. Therefore, recommendations for dealing with infectious diseases significantly depend on healthcare organizations.

The list of recommendations on the United States Preventive Services Taskforce website is broad enough and helpful to many professionals. Still, it requires further information on the preparedness and health organization to be complete. For example, screening, preventive drugs, and counseling are the recommendations for dealing with infectious conditions. Similarly, the source has several conditions ensuring swiftness in searching for a specific one. However, including information on preparedness and healthcare organizations would benefit the list. Therefore, despite the possibility of making changes to the information on the list, the available ones are already enough for the effectiveness of care professionals.

The United States Preventive Services Task Force is an independent, voluntary panel consisting of national experts in evidence-based medicine and the prevention of diseases. The purpose of this task force in the country is to improve the health of all the people in the United States by providing evidence-based recommendations regarding the clinical prevention of diseases. The task force's recommendations are usually graded with letters A, B, C or D, or I statement (Curry et al., 2018). This grading depends on the strong evidence that supports the recommendation and the balance of harms and benefits related to the preventive services.

According to this task force, more than 40% of women and 35% of men in the United States are obese. Obesity and overweight have been associated with increased health issues such as type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. Among people under the age of 65 years, obesity has been linked to the cause of mortality (Yang and Colditz, 2015). The task force recommendations on overweight and obesity apply to adults over 18 years, and first, they classify obesity as increased BMI. Obesity can be categorized as class 1 (BMI of 30.0 to 34.9), class 2 (BMI of 35.0 to 39.9), or class 3 (BMI of 40) and overweight as BMI of 25-29.9 (Curry et al., 2018). The recommendations are behavioral counselling and pharmacotherapy-based weight loss and weight loss maintenance interventions. The recommendations of USPSTF concerning behavioral interventions in obesity and overweight are significant because they can help individuals dealing with overweight and obesity reduce the risk they have of developing type 2 diabetes (Curry et al., 2018). The recommendations of USPSTF concerning overweight and obesity only apply to the services offered by the primary care health provider and primary care setting. Many obese and overweight people are afraid of seeking help in this health care setting. Thus, modifying the recommendations to suit those who cannot access this primary care provider would be significant.
