Discussion 2: Contemplating Your Future

Research skills support informed decision-making and better solutions to problems. Understanding the code of ethics enhances relevant considerations in solving conflict and dealing with ethical situations as a social worker. The new knowledge and skills learned through research and evaluation will help address problems relevantly and efficiently (Marsiglia & Booth, 2015). Understanding positive interactions with the clients will be transferred in gaining several experiences interacting with different clients and attending to their needs differently. Research allows understanding cultural competence in utilizing diverse skills and supporting critical thinking and problem-solving (Tankersley et al., 2008). Besides, creative and critical thinking skills are essential in future practice since they will support a more profound analysis of relevant decision-making. Communication skills and active listening will help clients understand their verbal and non-verbal cues and respond appropriately.

Consequently, understanding resilience is vital to changing and challenging environments concerning social work. Social workers deal with complex situations which require an understanding of self and apply relevant social skills to respond appropriately (Marsiglia & Booth, 2015). The knowledge also allows analysis and identification of necessary skills that would support better performance within the community. According to the NASW code of ethics, the social worker’s worker’s responsibility is to offer services to all without bias, supported through empathy and professionalism (Tankersley et al., 2008). In addition, social workers should maintain confidentiality, be non-judgmental, understand self and be purposeful in expressing support for the community they serve. Delivering high-quality and safe services for all will require integrating theory, research, practice, and experience in using the relevant social skills in solving individual and society issues (Tankersley et al., 2008). The skills will enhance effective communication, objectivity, integrity, and compassion in providing relevant services to all individuals in practice
