Instructions

From the list of journals provided select a research article about any aspect of the services sector. It may be research on the services sector as a whole or a particular service industry such as finance, investment, trade, communications, administration, business operations.

Format for Article Review

Typed, double-space. 12-point font. 1” margins all around.

Word Count: 500 words minimum. Type the word count at the end of your review.

Most of the journals in UF library collections are available electronically through JSTOR or other services that are available to UF students. You may also use Google Scholar to access articles in academic research journals. You may also find journals in other libraries. Select an article that was published in the years 2000-2016.

A list of academic journals is provided in the Resources section below. However, you may choose an article from other academic journals that are available to you.

Components of the Article Review

Title Page:

Critical Evaluation

Conclusion

Article citation. It contains: Author(s) of the article. Title of the Article. Journal Name Volume: Issue, Year, pages of article. Many articles found online will show you how to cite them. Here is the MLA Style Example (from UF Library Online search):

Rugman, Alan M., and Cecilia Brain. "The Regional Nature of the World's Banking Sector." Multinational Business Review 12.3 (2004): 5-22.

Summary - Provide a comprehensive overview of the contents of the article. Summarize the objectives and principal research questions.

Critical Evaluation - What theories does the author use to explain the reasons and background of his/her research inquiry? What methods/methodology are used in conducting the research? Does the discussion section address the objectives? Is there enough information (data, statistics) to support the author(s)'s findings? Are the graphics (figures, tables, charts, maps, photos) – clear and easy to read and interpret? Do they help to explain the research? Are the author’s conclusions reasonable based on the data and results presented? This critique should be based on your scholarly evaluation of the article’s content - not just your opinion of whether you like or dislike the research, findings, or author's point of view.

Conclusion - What do you consider are the overall strengths and weaknesses of the article? Finalize your thoughts about the article, discuss how you think the article could be improved, and give suggestions for further research on the topic.

NOTE: Include a copy of the article with your review. Save as pdf files and upload into Canvas by the due date.

3.0 pts Good - Reasonably evaluated the merits of the research and if the author(s) met the stated objectives of the research. Evaluated most of the following: Clarity of writing. Relevance of graphics (tables, figures, charts, photos). Significance of findings.

2.0 pts Average - Fair evaluation of the merits of the research and if the author(s) met the stated objectives of the research. Evaluated some of the following: Clarity of writing. Relevance of graphics (tables, figures, charts, photos). Significance of findings.

Conclusion 3.0 pts Excellent - Two or more specific and informed suggestions for improving article, and specific ideas for further research.

2.0 pts Good - Two suggestions for improving article, and ideas for further research.

1.0 pts Average - Suggestions for improving article, and further research ideas not specific to article.

Grammar, spelling

2.0 pts Excellent - Well written. Few, if any, errors in grammar, spelling.
