RE: Week 10 Discussion 1
The concerns with the use of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in law enforcement are the concerns with use and the privacy. The drones are able to fly anywhere, and is too dangerous for an officer to go. The privacy concerns are the drones are able to monitor people and their activities.
In a scenario situation where it would be beneficial to utilize drones or UAVs in law enforcement would be to identify an active shooter. Drones provide a great elevated view making it easier for law enforcement to take down the active shooter.
In situations where a police officer may use smart phones and social media to assist in law enforcement is when police officers are responding to the public questions regarding questions about the agency. Police officers may use their smart phones for suspect tracking. In a kidnapping scenario, it will be easier for police officers to track down the criminal. The morality of law enforcement using smart phones and social media as an effective tool for crime prevention and problem solving is an effective tool for crime fighting. All careers operate off of technology now and law enforcement officers are always on the go. Smart phones come in handy and help solve crimes faster with the use of the internet.

RE: Week 11 Discussion 2
The two most important topics that I will remember from this course is the intentional practice of bias-based policing and what constitutes inappropriate use of force by the police. After I read Chapter 8, Accountability, Ethics, Use of Force, Corruption, and Discipline, I feel confident that I would be able to make ethical decisions when faced with hostile situations as an law enforcement officer.
I understand the difference between community policing and bias-based policing. I understand the Fourth Amendment protects the people from unreasonable searches and seizures. I understand police officers cannot violate this right under the law of the Constitution.
The biggest challenges I forsee for law enforcement leaders in the coming decade is increasing the education requirements for police officers. In like any other career, some people are content with the education skills they already have and do not have the time to go back to school. This could cause any issue.
I also feel that enforcing all cadre to wear body cameras will be an even greater challenge for law enforcement leaders. Most law enforcement agencies are wearing body cameras, but some are not. Some agencies have reported the cameras are not that effective. It may look suspicious for some departments to wear body cameras and some to not. It may cause an issue for law enforcement leaders.

RE: Week 10 Discussion 3
I am all for protections of the Unites States of America from terrorist attacks and feel as though the government should do more in the efforts to protect American citizens. In doing so, I am against electronic surveillance of U. S. citizens without court orders or warrants in cases of suspected terrorist activity. There has to be a check and balance when it comes to the government intervening in the citizen’s private lives. The courts should serve as that balance and hold the government within the confines of the law.
The U.S. Constitution; although not perfect was created by our forefathers and has served this country well for centuries. The creators of the constitution had no idea that our society would drastically change as it has. Even though they were unaware, of these societal changes; the constitution still remains flexible and continues to stand the test of time.
I think that our government can continue to conduct electronic surveillance in cases where there is an interest in National Security. The constitution has remained relevant because our law makers have the ability to create new laws or amend old laws in order to protect the citizens of this country. I believe that if we are going to conduct electronic surveillance, to thwart terrorist attacks, we should do it within the confines of our laws.
