Source Analysis

Article 1

Reference: Leary, B., & Hay, K. (2019). Specialist sexual violence social work: Ensuring good practice. Aotearoa New Zealand Social Work31(4), 60-71.

Research Question

According to the study's objective, the research aimed at establishing the impact of good social work practice on sexual violence (Leary & Hay, 2019). Thus, the research question is: "What is the impact of good social work practice on sexual violence?" The conclusion validates the research question, finding a positive correlation between good social work practice and positive sexual violence outcomes.

Research Methodology

The study employed a qualitative research methodology. First, the study used interviews to elicit data from its participants. The article states that the resultant interview data was thematically analyzed to identify patterns and themes (Leary & Hay, 2019). In this regard, the data analysis found various themes in establishing good social work practice in handling sexual violence, including the importance of having empathy, listening, therapeutic and relational skills, and patience (Leary & Hay, 2019). Furthermore, the study contains portions of transcribed interviews. The presence of transcribed interviews and the establishment of themes and patterns in the research indicate a qualitative research methodology.

Article 2

Reference: Murat, Y. Ü. C. E., Karabekiroğlu, K., Yildirim, Z., Şahin, S., Sapmaz, D., Babadaği, Z., ... & Aydin, B. (2015). The psychiatric consequences of child and adolescent sexual abuse. Nöro Psikiyatri Arşivi52(4), 393.

Research Question

The purpose of the study was to investigate the psychiatric implications of sexual abuse as its correlated factors in children and adolescents (Murat et al., 2015). Thus the research question is "What are the psychiatric implications of sexual abuse and the associated determinants in children and adolescents?"

Research Methodology

The study employed a quantitative research approach. The reason is that the study contains various graphs and tables having numerical data in the results analysis section. One graph details the victim's age distribution, and another includes numerical data about the victim's sexual abuse classification. Additionally, the article contains a regression analysis table containing predictive data of various factors in the onset of any psychiatric complication correlated to sexual abuse. These numerical tables and graphs indicate the use of a quantitative research methodology

Article 3

Research Question

This article's research question is: "How does sexual abuse affect adolescents' self-esteem?" The research question has been derived from the study's thesis found at the end of the article's introduction. This paragraph states that the study "examines the outcomes of sexual abuse on adolescents' self-esteem" (Okunlola et al., 2021). Since a research question is a question that a study attempts to answer, the study attempts to establish how sexual abuse affects adolescents' self-esteem.

Article 4

Research Question

The research question in this study is: "What impact does sexual abuse have on the vulnerability of children and adolescents to pregnancy before the age of 14 years?" The research question refers to the question which a particular study tries to answer through research. Since this article lacks a thesis statement, the research hypothesis can be derived from the study objectives and the conclusion, which restates the research hypothesis. The study's objective states that the undertaken research aimed to investigate the presumption of sexual abuse through studying live births of mothers aged up to 13 years in Maceio, State of Alagoas (Silva et al., 2020). On the other hand, the study concludes that there was a prevalence of marriages and pregnancies in girls under the age of 14 and a scarcity of reporting of probable sexual abuse by healthcare professionals (Silva et al., 2020). Thus, the study objective and conclusion prove the aforementioned research hypothesis.

Research Methodology

The research methodology employed in this study is quantitative. First, the study's data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences software

(SPSS) (Silva et al., 2020). SPSS is a software tool dedicated to analyzing quantitative data. Furthermore, there is the presence of tables and graphs in the results analysis section. The table details the characteristics of participant mothers in the study, while the graph is a linear regression depicting the proportion of live births to mothers below the age of 14 by the aggregate number of live births as per the year of birth. Therefore, the presence of a graph and a table in the data analysis section renders the study methodology a quantitative one.

Article 5

Reference: Wong, S. P., Twynstra, J., Gilliland, J. A., Cook, J. L., & Seabrook, J. A. (2020). Risk factors and birth outcomes associated with teenage pregnancy: a Canadian sample. Journal of pediatric and adolescent gynecology33(2), 153-159.

Research Question

The study's research question is "How are social-economic status, mental health, and substance abuse correlated to teenage pregnancies, and are these pregnancies associated with adverse birth outcomes? This research question has been derived from the study objective. The research objective states that the paper aimed at examining the extent to which social-economic status, mental health, and drug use are correlated with teenage pregnancies and whether the pregnancies present high risks for adverse birth outcomes (Wong et al., 2020). Thus, the research question has been derived from the study objective.

Research Methodology

The study used quantitative research methods. First, the research used IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Statistics, version 25, to analyze data (Wong et al., 2020). Furthermore, the article's statistical analysis contains various numeric graphs and tables that indicate the use of quantitative research methods. For example, table three compares the maternal age category rates of negative birth outcomes (Wong et al., 2020). Additionally, in the results section, table 2 contains numerical data that describes the maternal characteristics of women who had undertaken single deliveries at London Health Sciences Centre between the February of 2009 and 2014 (Wong et al., 2020). Thus, the use of SPSS to analyze research data and the presence of numerical tables in the results section indicate that the study used quantitative research methods.

Article 6

Reference: Schiller, U. (2017). Child sexual abuse allegations: Challenges faced by social workers in child protection organisations. Practice29(5), 347-360.

Research Question

In this article, the author has stated the research question. The research question is: "What are the challenges faced by social workers employed by CPOs when dealing with allegations of child sexual abuse?" (Schiller, 2017).

Research Methodology

The research used a qualitative research design. First, the study employed focus groups to elicit data from the study participants (Schiller, 2017). Secondly, the data analysis found various themes and patterns relevant to the study. Among the multiple themes identified include "Challenges in Addressing Re-Victimisation During Child Sexual Abuse Investigations" and ": Challenges in Ensuring the 'Best Interest of the Child' Principle" (Schiller, 2017). Thus, the use of focus groups and the identification of themes in data analysis indicates that the study used qualitative research methods.
