From the interview, old age is associated with the days of sufferings and misery whereby the old people are very lonely, and they live in adult orphanages. They stated that in the current world, people know if they are old when their brain cannot function well. They begin to forget things and events easily. I feel that old people are role models who should be respected by all. This is because they have experienced a lot in life and they can offer guidance in so many ways.
When my parents were growing up, old was gold. The old were very senior people and respected by every person in the society because they were a source of knowledge to the young ones. The old became the elders of the society. today, that culture has changed. The young people are presented as more powerful while there is a negative attitude towards the old people.
My subjects defined old as the age whereby someone reaches the days of suffering and misery. They become isolated because no one wants to mingle with them because they become a burden to the rest.
We can help to boost the self-esteem of the elderly by; engaging in conversation with them, suggesting a hobby, playing with them to cheer them up, promote independence, connect them with groups and family, take them out and let them feel loved (Gil & Vazquez, 2014).
Conclusion
Old age is not a bad thing because it’s a development stage and no one has control over it. Therefore, the old should be treated well and respected because they are more experienced than the young generation.
