Individual: Research Paradigms

Research Paradigms

For this assignment you will begin to grow as a scholar and researcher by relying on scholarly texts and resources and not textbooks required for this course. It is important to note that as a general rule, textbooks are not scholarly resources because they do not contain original research. Search the library for peer-reviewed journal articles or texts that discuss the four paradigms listed in the attached graphic organizer; complete the assignment based on the information you find in the library. Please add a reference page and citations to support information.

Complete the attached graphic organizer based on the categories and answer the questions below.

·        Positivist

·        Post Positivist

·       Interpretivist/Constructivist

·        Critical

·        Pragmatic

Individual: Literature Review and Literature Gap

Top of Form

The literature review serves as an important purpose in any dissertation, research article, report or proposal. It supports the need for the study and convinces readers that the content area has been reviewed in depth, and there is clearly a research problem to be addressed and a gap in knowledge needing to be filled. A literature review should contain current and classic references, cite experts in field and synthesize the relevant literature while identifying the strengths and weaknesses of previous studies.

Consider a research interest within your degree program.

Select four recently published research articles related to your research interest; two quantitative and two qualitative research studies. You may substitute a mixed methods study for one of the qualitative or quantitative studies. Ensure that each of the studies you selected was published in a peer reviewed journal.

Review the Literature Review presentation to understand synthesis of literature.

Write a synthesized 1,400-to 1,750-literature review in which you compare and contrast the four scholarly research articles. Consider the following while constructing a logical and critical literature review:

· What is already known about the research topic you are interested in?

· What is not known about your topic; where is there a gap in the literature?

· What further research might be worth pursuing in this area?

Use the Research Plan Template attached to format your assignment according to APA guidelines. This week in the Research Plan Template you will be completing:

Week 3 assignment (due by 05/22/19)

Individual: Formulating the Problem Statement and Purpose Statement

In this assignment, you will create your Problem and Purpose Statements. Problem statements ground the phenomenon of concern within the larger context of the problem, identify the need for the study and once the larger problem is articulated, they identify the specific problem proposed for the research. Problem statements must be of sufficient depth to be sustainable through the entire research process.

Read or review the relevant sources on developing the problem statement and purpose statement located in the Required Readings and Learning Activity folder and in the Recommended Readings and Learning Activity folder.

Review the Problem and Purpose Statements presentation.

Develop a draft problem statement that aligns with your program of study. Also develop a draft purpose paragraph that aligns with the problem.

Write 700- to 1,050-word paper that includes your problem statement and purpose.

Use the Development of Research Foundations template so your assignment is formatted according to APA guidelines.

Week 4 assignment (due by 05/29/19)

Individual: Developing the Research Questions

For this assignment, you will write your research questions. Research questions represent the purpose of conducting the study, and well-stated research questions drive the investigation and the implementation of the study. Beware of poorly-stated, ambiguous research questions which can muddy the investigation and make it difficult for the reader to decipher the intended research. In quantitative studies, research questions are most often descriptive, correlational, or comparative, focusing on describing the distribution of variables, the extent of relationships among variables, or differences within or between groups. In qualitative studies, the research questions are generally broad in nature, focusing on exploring or describing how or why.

Read the relevant sources on developing research questions.

Review the Developing Research Questions presentation.

Determine what research questions might be relevant for your dissertation. Ensure that the questions are formatted per guidance in the presentation.

Use the Development of Research Foundations template so your assignment is formatted according to APA guidelines.

Week 5 Assignment (due by 06/06/19)

Individual: Method Selection and Justification

This week you will select a research method that's appropriate for your study. As you select a method, bear in mind that quantitative research is used to address a social problem by using numerical data to quantify a participant's opinions, perceptions, and feelings. Qualitative research on the other hand, uses approaches such as interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, observations, or archival documents to gain an understanding of participant's opinions, perceptions, and feelings, or by examining documents or narratives.

Select and provide the rationale for the appropriate method to achieve your research objectives.

Post your problem statement, purpose, research questions, and proposed method and rationalization to the Method

For this week's assignment, you will select an appropriate research design for your study. Once you have selected an appropriate design, you must locate and review references developed by the primary methodologists associated with that design. It is also crucial that you circle back and revise their purpose and research questions to align with the selected design; reviewing for and revising to ensure alignment between the proposed research elements is part of the doctoral process.

Review the Selecting an Appropriate Research Design presentation.

Select and rationalize an appropriate design to achieve your research objectives.

Post your problem statement, purpose statement, research questions, method and justification, and proposed design and rationalization to the Research Design Peer Review discussion.

Week 7 Assignment (due by 06/20/19)

Developing a Theoretical or Conceptual Framework Top of Form

The conceptual or theoretical framework is a major element of the dissertation and begins with a broad theoretical foundation. Your conceptual or theoretical framework will be presented in Chapter 1 of the dissertation proposal and expanded upon in Chapter 2, the literature review. Depending upon the research methodologists consulted for the research design, some methodologists suggest that conceptual frameworks are used in quantitative research and theoretical frameworks are used in qualitative research; however, what is important is that the researcher has a conceptual or a theoretical framework in place to guide the study.

Review the Theoretical or Conceptual Framework presentation located in the Required Reading and Learning Activity folder.

Develop a theoretical or conceptual framework section that is relevant to your method and topic.

Include three to five relevant theories, including both germinal and current theories.

Use the Development of Research Foundations template so your assignment is formatted according to APA guidelines.

Week 8 Assignment (due by 06/27/19)

In Weeks 1-7 of this course, you developed the foundational research elements required for the initial steps in a research study. Note that these same foundational research elements will also be used as components for a dissertation study.

In this two-part assignment, you will:

1. Complete the Development of Research Foundations paper by adding a background and a contribution to knowledge sections to your existing Development of Research Foundations document, and:

2. Reflect on the SPL model discussions throughout the ACCESS courses of your program to convey how the SPL model provides structure for your proposed research.

Part A: Development of Research Foundations Paper (150 points)

Add a 'Significance of the Study' section to your culminating Development of Research Foundations paper. The Significance of the Study section should describe why your study is a unique approach to the problem. Using the Development of Research Foundations example paper where you have added each week's assignment, add the Significance of the Study section after the RQs (please see the attached document for proper organization).

Part B: Reflecting on the SPL Model (50 points)

Develop a 500- to 700-word addendum to your Development of Research Foundations paper that conveys how the SPL model provides structure for your proposed study.

Add your reflection at the end of the Development of Research Foundations paper, as indicated in the example paper.
