RAINMAN THE MOVIE 2
Introduction
Mental imbalance can clearly be brought out as an illness that results to changes in the behavior
of particular individuals as well as causing thought disturbances hence making an individual or a
member of the family failing to adjust to the daily routines of life. Mental imbalance can
therefore be classified as emotional or rather physical since it can make various people
vulnerable following the judgments brought about by the other people. In this case, we shall be
seeing the effects of mental imbalance within a family that had been separated due to the
perceived mental illness of Raymond.
Collateral Information
Much of the collateral information concerning Raymond behavior can be obtained from the
mental hospital where he had been placed for all those periods. It states that after his treatment he
was diagnosed of chemical imbalance in his system which was further explained to be consisting
of both the social and the organic segment therefore the prescription from the doctor was that
Raymond had to be exposed to the various foods which should be rich in the various nutrients as
well as ensuring that he routinely visits the hospital to perform various checkups as well sessions
of treatment. However, there are some other various medical reports which has been reported to
be negative effects such as his constant movement in the mid of his treatment as well as talking
with anomalous tone as well as well as showing great signs of a man with autism which has been
said to be typically influencing conduct. (Brogaard, 2013).
What people say about Patient Behavior?
There is a lot that has been said about Raymond for instance he is well known for his memory
that has been put out as remarkable and has therefore made many people to get associated with
him especially his sibling Charlie. This trait has clearly been brought out when he surprises Sally
Dibbs by his great power to remember certain aspects like when he was able to remember the
phone number amongst the many other numbers in the phone directory despite his mental

Put dates of entry of all
"interviews" or even the

why collateral information

obtain collateral information.

problem. He as well has got great love for his sibling Charlie and this is clearly shown when he
warmly illuminates the name Charlie after the mental assessment hearing in the hospital. We can
as well know the much that has been said about Raymond through his social indications such that
he cannot maintain eye to eye conduct with others, cannot respond to his name as well as poor
reaction to peoples sentiments. (Brogaard, 2013).
Psychological issues that exacerbate patient’s problem
The collateral information showed that Raymond is a man with autism and this is a very
significant aspect since we can clearly see this from how Raymond shows various behaviors for
example he could not easily move and therefore used a lot of efforts to move. We as well see this
when he shows certain nonverbal cues when he suddenly moves and kissed the woman in the lift.
Other factors such as his failure to respond to his name when called and how he stares at the
garments as they fall off from the garments dryer. (Rolls, 2014).
There are no police reports so far concerning the different behaviors of Raymond or any of his
siblings.
Personality/ Intelligence Testing Reports
Raymond had been separated and denied contact with the rest of his family members after many
years of time when Sanfford Babbit had otherwise thought Raymond to be a risk to his younger
sibling after the incidence of hot water but finally when Charlie is presented to him, he shows
much love and affection therefore guaranteed he didn’t hurt the sibling. (Rolls, 2014).
Conclusion
Mental imbalance is an illness that should not be looked down upon and therefore people
suffering from this disorder should be given special care and treatment.

Another great observation
and clinical note....never be
afraid to put your emotions
into this too...if it touches you,
say so...you are involved with
your patient in an almost
sacred fashion...a safely
emotionally intimate one...I
can feel your "caring" for
Raymond beneath the notes!

Great overview of why he
may have the criteria for
autism...how about the
"savant" component of his
possible diagnosis? Explore
this too as his ability to
remember is quite unusual...

This is a good broad opinion, now go deep into the possible
diagnosis...perhaps Autism with a savant component? Will you be reaching
out to his previous doctors at the facility? They would have extensive
collateral info...include a fictionalized note that you have reached out to them
as well...and they likely performed much testing on him there, too! [Lise St.]
