1. Active community involvement and dialogue is critical for effective change of both policy and practice.
2. Capacity building of community members to advocate policy level changes and influence the current practice is known to be an effective approach in diverse community context.
3. Engagement of community in the process from the beginning of planning helps to enhance knowledge, skills and expertise to take effective actions.

Case Studies Community Empowerment/Capacity Building
This assignment has three parts that you need to cover.
Part 1 and part 2 of assignment 1 are related to Module 1.

Part 1: • Identify a preventable health concern of your interest
such as dengue fever, hypertension or type 2 diabetes.
• Describe three key strategies that you might use to engage with a community to implement a program by using Laverack’s ladder of community-based interaction.
Part 2: • Discuss how you could use the core domains of
capacity building identified by Liberato et al (2011) to support the journey to community empowerment and ownership of your prevention program.
Consider the following criteria for your assignment 1.
