Bring your own device (BYOD) was implemented to be a cost savings measure on equipment assets. Reasons for this is because in this day and age, it very common for many those employers to already own a cellphone, tablet or a personal computer. For some individuals, they own all of those devices. With BYOD in place, this allows employers to bring their own devices to work and use them for work related purposes. Many companies have a internal application that can be downloaded onto their employers electronics, which enables their staff to be able to work using their own devices. Although this can be cost effective for a company, there are many cons that comes along with it, such as the security concerns. For example, many companies will require for their employees’ devices to be registered to the company to be monitored, which can come off as a invasion of privacy in some cases, especially when a employee is off the clock. Another issue issues with BYOD is the fact many employees may not have compatible systems that are compatible with the company’s software and programs. This is especially an issue when employees are using older systems that are not compatible with present day operating systems.

Good morning. Byod is a great program. There are few people that do not have their own electronic device. When you can use that device as a tool it only helps increase the productivity of your job. There are several reasons that BYOD can be considered not useful. The first reason being that with a personal device people could want to have their cell phone service comped or they may want to get free service. A second reason is that if a person is on their own personal device it may look like they are using their device for fun instead of as a tool. A third reason is that there is a chance that the company could see what you are doing on your phone that is not work related. In other words that the company could see personal information from your phone. At Walmart we have BYOD. Unfortunately not all Smart phones can download the application. The app can drain my phone but when I am unable to find a device to do my job I love being able to have the option at my fingertips. We cannot use the app when we are off the clock which is wonderful because that means that we are being paid to do our job instead of someone saying that we should work when not clocked in. We have always gotten a discount on certain cell phone companies, so when wee got BYOD the amount of the phone did not go down.
