There are two parts to the Week 6 assignment. Part 1 is the Rapid Critical Appraisal Sheet. Part 2 is a Summary. Be sure to read the rubric for the assignment. I think you'll be okay working your way through the Appraisal sheet - use what you've learned so far to know which column goes with which study. For the summary, the focus is on explaining how the two different philosophies of these two studies - quantitative and qualitative - approached looking at the topic.
From the grading rubric (for the summary part - be sure to read the whole thing):
|
Summary of the findings/conclusions/themes for each research article |
Points Range:36 (18.00%) - 40 (20.00%) An expertly examined investigation of the findings, themes, and conclusions for both articles is skillfully presented for each article. |
Points Range:30.4 (15.20%) - 35.6 (17.80%) An adequate investigation of the findings, themes, and conclusions for both is satisfactorily presented with minor omissions or errors. |
Points Range:24 (12.00%) - 30 (15.00%) An unsatisfactory investigation of the findings, themes, and conclusions for both articles is provided with major omissions or errors, or only one of the articles is investigated and presented satisfactorily. |
Points Range:0 (0.00%) - 23.6 (11.80%) A description of the findings, themes, and conclusions, is not presented for either article. |
|
Description of the similarities and differences among the research articles |
Points Range:54 (27.00%) - 60 (30.00%) The description of the similarities and differences among the research articles is clear and thorough. |
Points Range:45.6 (22.80%) - 53.4 (26.70%) The description of the similarities and differences among the research articles is adequate with minor omissions or errors. |
Points Range:36 (18.00%) - 45 (22.50%) The description of the similarities and differences among the research articles is inadequate with major omissions or errors. |
Points Range:0 (0.00%) - 35.4 (17.70%) The description of the similarities and differences among the research articles is not provided. |
When you are doing the summary, really think about how the two different approaches were similar and different, beyond just the designs. What does the quantitative study tell you about the topic that the qualitative study does not? Vice versa?
You have to submit 4 items:
Your qualitative article, your quantitative article, the Appraisal sheet, and the summary (the summary can be attached to the appraisal sheet at the end).
