Web Service Architecture Diagram Activity Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

In this module, you read about service oriented architecture, the value of diagrams, and the importance of collecting and storing data. In this activity you are going to apply this content by creating an architecture diagram of a web service.

Prompt

In the first activity in this module, you followed steps to implement a web service. For this activity, you will create a diagram that represents the web service from Activity One.

Your diagram should include:

· All of the components needed to create the web service (labeled for identification)

· A clear representation of the interaction between the components

Additionally, you will need to:

· Describe the purpose of each component

· Explain how a web service can be used to benefit an organization

The diagram and the description of the components and explanation of benefits to an organization should be submitted on the same document. You may use any tool you like to create the diagram, including pencil and paper.

We have included a link to a video and some popular tools that can be used to help you create your diagram. These are not required resources, but are available to use if needed.

· Microsoft: Add a drawing to a document – This document provides step-by-step instructions for creating drawings using the tools available through Microsoft Office.

· draw.io – Quick Start Video – This video provides a demonstration of the tools and capabilities of draw.io.

· This Visio 2016 tutorial includes information that may be helpful to you when creating your flowchart. You will want to focus mainly on the information presented in Section B: Navigation and Section C. Using Shapes, Connectors, and Arrows.

· Video: Creating Flow Charts
