Work Breakdown Structure:
The project Life Cycle and System Development Life Cycle Phases and Deliverables were outlined in the Deliverable Structure Chart of the Scope Management Plan. The Phase Milestones, Deliverables, Deliverable Milestones and the Activities / Tasks that need to be performed to achieve the milestones are presented below.
Project Phases – Tasks, Deliverables and Milestones:
Table 1 illustrates the major phases, their deliverables, milestones and tasks for the Pilot Angels Scheduling System project. The table also lists the identified resource assignments and the estimated time to complete the task.
Estimation Techniques:
The Odyssey Business Consulting (OBC) used a combination of estimation techniques to come up with the time estimates of the activities and tasks in the Work Breakdown Structure. Time Boxing was used for the “Business Case” deliverable. OBC had two work weeks (10 days) within which the Business Case was to be prepared and presented to its client Husky Air Therefore OBC time boxed the Project Initiation phase for 7 days. Also a time box of two work weeks(10 days) was allotted to the Analysis Phase of the SDLC, because it has been observed that a lot of time is usually expended in the Requirements Gathering Phase if a bottom-up approach is used.
For all other times, bottom-up estimation technique has been used. In the activities and tasks outlines, there are a few tasks that could be performed simultaneously. This issue will be addressed during the preparation of the Project Schedule and Budget using Microsoft Project.
