Cultural competence is all about people's actions and wills in building and comprehending in between people to be respectful and be open to some different cultural practices and beliefs, cultural perspectives to strengthen the cultural safeguarding hence working towards the opportunity equality. The building of relationships is so significant to cultural competence. It is mainly based on comprehension foundation and their expectations and attitudes; hence it aids in the subsequent building of strengthening of people’s skills and knowledge using the broad range of black Americans and resources in developing their comprehension (Cokley, 2012). Comment by William Brown: This sentence is extremely difficult to follow. I recommend breaking it up into a couple sentences for more clarity Comment by William Brown: missing word: comprehension of* foundation? of a culture’s foundation?

In America, the diversity and significance of respecting various cultures are part of the social fabric of our community. Though cultural competence is new to many people over the past years, it has led to address and challenge the racism of the black Americans, injustice, inequity through legislation, rights education, creation of awareness and exclusion. Comment by William Brown: The majority of your paragraphs are very brief, but this one is only 2 sentences. I would push for more depth in your paragraphs to unpack the ideas further

Cultural competence and identity is fundamental as it underlies some principles and ideologies of trust, equity, social justice, and diversity. Culture is the fundamental building block of cultural identity and growth and development of the intense character of religion, which is essential to personal health as creating their sense of belonging no matter their place of location. It enhances more than being respected by the culture but gives a representation of services in the community. It increases the creation of awareness of differences in learning more than Knowledge of values and customs of the blacks in America (De, 2018). Comment by William Brown: because you’re not using commas here, it’s difficult to see if this is all a list or if “development” starts a new independent clause

Cultural competence and identity also enhance the ability to comprehend and communicate effectively with people across all cultures. It also encompasses the development of positive attitudes towards the cultural differences; it also creates awareness of individual own world view. Cultural competence enhances the gaining of Knowledge of different cultures and their practices hence enhancing the development of communication skills and also interaction with other cultures (Fuertes, 2012). Comment by William Brown: This is too much repetition, as you used this exact word right above it, but this paragraph repeats “also” too much, too

There are various forms of experience of cultural competence and identity in the world. Cultural competence has brought about a shift of demography where many countries like the US have many native people like the African Americans, Japanese Americans, and other people from native lands. This is one of the experiences of cultural competence as people have respected and allowed people to stay in their countries. Comment by William Brown: But Japanese people don’t come from the United States, black people were forcibly brought over from places like Africa, Haiti, and the Caribbean islands, and Native Americans were famously forced off their land (currently into reservations and previously through things like the trail of tears). This is another reason why I advocate for more depth in your paragraphs—so you can account for these types of clarifications

The other form of experience of cultural competence and identity is increasing of communities hence the world becoming a global village. Due to this experience, the present world is more comprehensive and diverse. This experience is enhanced by using having proper technology; hence enhancing interactions between people from different continents and across cultures around the world is a broad experience of cultural identity (Ijabs, 2010). Comment by William Brown: In the previous paragraph you write as though there are numerous forms, while here the word “other” insinuates that there are only two Comment by William Brown: increasing what type of communities? because we could just increase communities that are culturally-isolated, which wouldn’t be culturally competent

Before one can characterize African Americans, and the various topics portrayed all through the writing, one should explore and gain an understanding of African Americans from a cultural standpoint. This information is critical to understanding the cultural values and customs which have been passed down throughout the generations. My culture is influenced by beliefs, values, traditions, language, and behaviors. I grew up in an upper-class nuclear family, meaning a two-parent household. Because of that, I was taught the importance of family, education, and respect for my parent's authority. My parent's instilled respect, love, humility, honesty, responsibility, and spirituality, which has provided me with a foundation as a source of protection, guidance, affection, and support. You cannot teach respect, but you can show it. Comment by William Brown: This is a pretty large argument to not have any defense with it. One could just as easily argue that showing respect is an act of teaching it, for example

As far as education goes, it is imperative in my family. My mother and father both graduated from college. My parents were the first influence on my development and school achievement. My parents taught me the importance of creativity and confidence, which has influenced my educational career. They have played an essential role in my educational career because they always made sure I had access to everything I needed to be successful plus more. Also, they were very involved, which motivated me to want to achieve. Comment by William Brown: unpack this more in terms of what they were specifically doing that you thought was valuable

Religion has played an essential role in my life. I started going to church when I was four years old, and my religious views influence much of my worldview. I believe that God is the creator, and all things are related. As a Christian, I believe in abstaining from sexual relationships until marriage. My religion influences how I act, think, dress, and even decorate. For example, my mother has decorative ceramics all over the house connected to the Bible like the cross or Noah's Ark. Comment by William Brown: repetition of “essential role”

In conclusion, cultural identity and competence should be well followed by all people to respect others in all its elements of expertise, knowledge, and attitude. As a future speech Pathologist, I will be culturally competent and respectful to each client by effectively engaging with diverse families, educating myself on various cultures, celebrating gains together, and getting the skill of comprehending and honoring the differences. Also, by doing so, can decrease the likelihood of liability and malpractice claims (ASHA). During the work and skills practices, cultural identity and competence never end, and it mainly involves critical reflection and training to understand how people see the world and contribute fully in different schemes of the shared skills and knowledge. Comment by William Brown: My main recommendation for the essay is to push the paragraphs further. You have another page that you can use since it’s 3-4 pages, so I would go in more depth so that you can unpack these roles and influences more. Right now, there are still a lot of unexplained ideas that could make the essay more effective overall if they were unpacked more
