Developing water monitoring and regulation measures

Water Purifying Straws

We can distribute water purifying straws amongst our residents so they have access to clean drinking water, despite weather disasters, and help the amount of plastic water bottles being used as well as plastic straws.

Solar Stills

We can add solar stills to Ashfordton's buildings. Water is evaporated by the sun through clear plastic or glass. The pure water then condenses on the cooler side of the panel and drips down to where it can be collected. Residents will have access to clean drinking water on a daily bases.

Ashfordton could manage storm water by creating permeable buildings that capture all the natural resources to be used. Build buildings that collect storm water, rain water, snow, etc (filter it and store it) for later use, buildings that absorb sunlight and use it as a source of energy to power up different things (warm water, electricity, etc). Even the air could be used, thinking outside the box, maybe have buildings that filter out the air around us (collect the wind, winter air, summer heat, compress it, store in an air tight seal) to use it as an alternate for air conditioner. Use the summer heat in the winter to stay warm and the winter air in the summer for air conditioner.  hide

To maintain susbtainable drinking water in Ashfordton, all the buildings would have either runoff roofs or rain water barrels to collect the rain. Before the water reaches the barrel, the water will go through a filtering process to purify the water (with chlorine or ultra violet sterilization or boiling system), then it would complete it's process by going into a storage tank until it is used. The storage tank will connect to that individual building and the water will constantly circulate throughout that building until there is no more water. If for some reason this building runs out of rain water, the storage tank is also connected to a centralized tank for emergency purposes. Everyone is limited to how much water resources that is used for a single unit or that building.  hide

Sand-filled resevoirs

This can be beneficial because the sand does not absorb water, so it can contain and it can also act as a filter, so the water can be used for small irrigation.

Farming Regulations

Due to the large amounts of farms in Ashfordton, it would be a good idea if the city had water regulations and restrictions on where the run-off water would be dumped. The use of pesticides greatly reduces the amount of clean water the town has to offer. Organic farming could help to reduce the amount of run-off resulting in more available clean water sources.

Ponds

Ponds: Ponds are a great idea for farmers and livestock such as cattle. The idea helps them save water and add to the ecosystem.

Creating an adequate treatment and sanitation system can help clean the wastewater to be reused and safe for drinking.

Having the water flow from all sources to one central location while it is treated and then rain and snow will act as a natural filter. Ashfordton could then use the water for the residents and continue to reuse the water as it repeats the filtration process. 

Increase the method of flooding fields for local agriculture. In most desert areas heat plays a major factor in wasted water due to evaporation leaving the soil dry and wasting resources altogether. An alternative system is to flood fields semi consistently which in the end gets the water to crops and reduces the water waste. Many plots of farm land can be set up with easy through this method.  hide

Encourage the installment of reverse osmosis systems build in homes to recycle grey water. Reverse osmosis systems are more common in deserts and area where water is scarce. In these areas recycled sewage water is the usual for home water anyways making this a safe alternative and will help conserve water use.  hide

Soft Path Approach

This would ensure that residents only use what they need. For example, using half the water for a load of laundry. Finding other ways to reuse the water is also part of this. It would be low or no cost and natural.
