Capstone 495
WA 1
Introduction to the Chapter:
My topic for this capstone is going to be “Recovery from mental illness is possible.” In this Capstone I will not go over the cause of mental illness, but only investigating the solutions to it. I will research about what will make the person recover.
Background of the topic:
It is estimated that 1 in 25 people in the USA will have a severe mental illness. I will draw out solutions from the following cited literature:
1/ Charles L. Whitfield MD:” Healing the Child Within” by Health Communication, Inc. 1989, Deerfield Beach, Fl. Print
2/ David D. Burns, MD: “Feeling good: The New Mood Therapy” Harper 1999, New York. Print
3/ John Bradshaw: “Healing the Shame That Bind You.” By Health Communications Inc. 1988, Deerfield Beach, Fl. Print.
4/ MentalHealth.gov: “Recovery is Possible” Web Jul 2nd, 2017
5/ National Alliance on Mental Illness: Psychological Treatment, web Jul2nd, 2017
6/ Priscilla Ridgway: “Pathways to Recovery: A Strength Recovery Self-Help Work Book.” University of Kansas,School of Social Welfare, Jun 2014, Kansas. 9th printing
7/ Wiki how to recover from mental illness web Jul 2nd, 2017
Problems Statement:
Is it possible to recover from mental illness? If so, what factors will contribute to its recovery? Would it be: physical, physiological, financial, social, psychological, spiritual?
Professional significance of your work:
I find this topic very important and relevant to my career. I am currently working in the mental health field as a recovery coach. I help people on their journey toward recovery, so I want to make sure that I have the right information. Also I want to be certain about my line of work, that it is affective.
Overview of Methodology:
I am taking the information out of the books that I found relevant to this topic. I can summarize, quote, or paraphrase in addition to my ideas and experiences.
The boundary of my limit is that I only write about the recovery for the mental illness, not physical illness.
Definition of terms:
Recovery: the mental illness’s symptoms are manageable and is reduced to the point that patients can resume a productive and satisfied life.
Summary:
Recovery from mental illness is possible according to many authors and experts. Even in the severe case, people still can manage the symptoms. Because I work in this field so I personally interest in this topics. Beside working, I also read and draw out information from authors and books. However this is only about recovery of mental illness, not physical illness. When people are in recovery, they can have a satisfied and productive life with health, work, relationship, hobbies, and community
