- Download and read the exam specifications for:
- FE Exam in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) (or for your discipline or "Other Disciple")
- PE Exam in ECE: Computer Engineering
- PE Exam in ECE: Electronics, Controls and Communications
- PE Exam in ECE: Power
- Download the Fundamentals of Engineering Handbook (FE Exam Reference). Skim the ECE Chapter.
- View the latest exam pass rates
Visit CA BPELSG to learn the requirements to apply for Engineer-in-Training Certificate and a PE license.
Analysis
- Select a PE Exam closest to your interests.
- Assess how relevant to your interests the exam is and to what extent you believe your engineering degree will prepare you for that exam.
Writing the 4MAT
- In Part 1, summarize what you learned about Professional Engineering Licensing from the presentation, the NCEES materials, and the California Board web site. In Part 2, give your opinion on any or all of the following: the relevance of the PE exam test closest to your interests, the suitability of your degree program to prepare you for that exam, your reaction to PE licensing by the state, and/or your level of interest in getting licensed. Part 3 is questions you still have about the PE licensing process and exams. Part 4 is a concise and specific action plan based on related to any NCEES material such as a plan to prepare for and take the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, a plan to use the Engineering Fundamentals Handbook in planning and supporting the required EE coursework, or something else related of your choosing.
