A.

Beth plays college basketball and maintains a 3.5 GPA at a local university. Her school has recently introduced random drug testing for all athletes as a way to enforce the school's athletic code of conduct; which is signed by all student-athletes. At a party several weeks ago Beth smoked a little marijuana... unaware that the THC would remain in her system for some time. The following Monday she tested positive for drug use and was dropped from the team. Beth argues that her personal life is her own business, and it does not affect her performance in the classroom or on the basketball court.

Discussion Questions:

I'm curious...

· What do you think? Does Beth have a valid argument?

· Do you think drug testing in schools and/or the work place is a viable deterrent?
