I read an article from Forbes which gives some reasons why companies still do not implement security when it comes to their networks. Of the reasons provided, one was the down time required for maintenance and updates. The WannaCry virus was effective even after the operating system manufacturer created and released a patch fixing the issue (Trachtenberg, 2018). This came down to the users not updating their software.

Another reason could be the lack knowledge. Most companies will be focused on money and what will get their applications up and running to start making money quicker. Security could be a speed bump for this. The more applications and systems running the software the greater the attack surface and more vulnerabilities need addressed.

The tools we have covered so far in this course are extremely effective. I would believe small businesses and maybe even medium sized businesses could greatly benefit from them. The obstacle will come from finding someone or a team who can effectively implement and maintain the tools to prevent down time for the company. The tools we have used have been free or at least a free trial version. The cost of the tools would be worth the investment and cost far less than a cyber attack.
