As technology has changed the world, there have been increasing concerns over personal privacy.  As these issues have come up, it has been important to enact laws to protect citizens and to set standards for the use of this information by organizations.  In the chart listed in the text, there are privacy laws going all the way back to 1914, and up to present day.

One of the laws that is mentioned is the “Privacy Act of 1974”.  This law had to do with the government’s use of information that was gathered about citizens and how they use that information.  There was and is concern that the government and it’s agencies overstep personal privacy and the goal is to help set regulations on collection, the maintenance, use, and the discovery of personal information ("Privacy Act of 1974", 2018).

Another law that is mentioned is the “Health Information for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act”.  These were part of the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” and were both enacted in 2009.  The HITECH Act was passed in order to set standards for the privacy and security of health information that is transmitted electronically.  This law helps to ensure that health care workers are properly following the guidelines established by HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and the penalties of breaking these guidelines ("HITECH Act Enforcement Interim Final Rule", 2018).

There will continue to be challenges to our personal privacy and it is important for us to be aware of the potential dangers as new technologies are developed.
