Linux and Windows are two products that are very different in the way they look and act. The manufacturers are also trying to make it so their products are different out of the box when it comes to security features. There are a few features that these operating systems have that are worth mentioning. One of the things to look at is the user privileges and the effect that it has on the system. Windows systems provide root access to their user which means that if malware gets into the system it will spread to the entire system, whereas Linux does not provide this access, so malware would have no ability to spread (Poland, 2017). Another function to look at is the automation of the system. Windows uses about 90% automation for their processes which means that malware could easily get onto the system without the user knowing, while Linux doesn’t have this degree of automation and doesn’t have this problem (Poland, 2017). Another difference in security is Linux is an open source system that allows user to change the source code which, in turn allows the developers to find the vulnerability quicker (Poland, 2017). While these are just a few of the differences, you can see that Linux tends to be more friendly in a sense of user functionality while Windows is similar to a boxed product.
