Assignment 1: Discussion—Unfair Treatment

Pathways contracted some actors for a television program for a three-month shooting schedule. However, the program underwent major revisions and one role was changed from a middle-aged white female to a young African-American female. Pathways terminated the contract with the actress according to the terms of the contract. However, the actress had turned down another assignment to be able to work on the Pathways program. She has accused Pathways of unfair treatment and racial discrimination.

Analyze the scenario and argue for or against the actress’ complaint. Give reasons and cite relevant laws and precedence in support of your position.

Write your initial response in 2–3 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Research the Internet to select a recent employment-related case in the graphic design industry. You can use the FindLaw Web site for research. Analyze the case as follows:

· Summarize the facts of the case in 1–2 paragraphs.

· Discuss the laws applicable to the case.

· Explain how the laws were interpreted by the court and applied to the facts of the case.

· Explain the court’s final decision.

· State whether you agree or disagree with the court's reasoning. Support your argument with material from the textbook explaining why your position should be the correct position.

Write a 3–4-page case analysis in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
