Top Fifteen Wine-Producing Countries Last Updated: 4 months ago

Top 10 shown on chart

The world’s wine production grew robustly in 2018, more than making up for a troublesome 2017 marked by low harvests in Italy, France, and Spain due to severe frosts and heavy rains. Most of the major wine-producing countries achieved increases of 20%, 30%, or more over 2017 and reached levels well above their averages for the decade. Italy retained its top position among wine producers with an unexpectedly strong growth of 29% over 2017 and 7.5% over the good harvest of 2016. France, Spain, Argentina, Chile, and Germany all experienced improvements of at least 23%. The United States, the fourth-largest producer, and Australia continued to stay relatively stable, while South Africa and China saw significant declines.
