I believe both internal and external resources if utilized correctly can strengthen any cybersecurity program. MSSPs can be an excellent resource especially if it is utilized correctly. They help companies keep up with today’s constantly changing threat landscape, relieve stress and reduce expense by taking a systematic and strategic approach to identifying and protecting an organization from vulnerabilities. They also aid with identity access management (IAM), as well as privileged access management (PAM) Even more so with smaller companies where maybe they don’t have a large cyber team or because of budget constraints. Another reason can be a shortage of cyber folks. As security is moving at such a rapid rate in trying to ensure systems are operational, and with new initiatives, such as migrating to cloud or hybrid models, they simply lack the expertise or the time required for researching, installing, configuring, and managing security products and systems. This is where internal people in security can bridge the gap with MSSP. Many companies may have deficiencies, maybe wanting a SOC or wanting ISO certifications but they don’t have the means to get there. This results in companies not being in a “security mature” place. By working with an MSSP these types of organizations can benefit by helping to get that maturity by partnering with them.
