Software architecture and software design are often confused with one another. Software architecture is the process of matching software characteristics to comprise a structured solution which fits exactly into business requirements. Software architecture focuses on developing the core solution at a high-level of software infrastructure. Software design focuses on designing the code in a manner that produces the outcome defined within the software architecture. Software design addresses the functions of individual modules, scope of classes, and the purpose of each function. (Concise, 2019). If you think of it as constructing a building, the architect will show what the building will look like in its final state, and then the building contractors will use that diagram to comprise the measures in which it will take to build the structure.

Software architecture is the blueprint for a software system which assists in managing its complexity allowing to put together the communication and coordination mechanisms among the components. From the architecture, development teams decide the necessary steps of the development process. (Concise, 2019).

Software design is making the plan which comprises the functional elements making up the system. This plan shows how each module works in relation to each other to fulfill the requirements. The design plan is a valuable source of reference within the development process which guides the team in task implementation of the coding, design, integration, and testing procedures. (Concise, 2019).
