System architecture and system design are related but different in their goals. Architecture aims towards the theoretical, structure and purpose, and strategy. Design aims towards the tangible, real life practices, and implementations. Some of the concerns can overlap so the teams on both sides will work together frequently. They both focus on elements and components to ensure the best implementation practices.

Software architecture is the process of converting software characteristics into a structured solution. This solution matches business and technical requirements. A few software characteristics and attributes are security, flexibility, and scalability. The focus is on developing the outline and high-level infrastructure of software.

Software design; however, focuses on the code level projects. It addresses the problems of functions in individual modules, the scope of sessions and the purposes of different functions.  Software design is all about making a design plan that researches the different components that make up a system. It shows how they work together to meet the system requirements.

System architecture involves a multitude of stakeholders with separate concerns. It is very quality driven with recurring styles, conceptual integrity, and cognitive constraints. Some of these are the same for design but the components are more dedicated. System architecture examples are the choice of frameworks, languages, scope, goals, and high-level methodologies such as Agile. System design examples are the plan for how code will be organized, how the contracts between different parts of the system will look, and the ongoing implementation of the project's methodologies and goals. The specifications are essential during this.
